Scented Candles for the Candle Junkie in Your Life
We all know at least one candle junkie or ten in our circle of friends and family, and honestly, this is the best addiction to have! I mean, who doesn't love the idea of walking into a room and smelling the most amazing scents. If you close your eyes, you can transform yourself to a different place, all based on the scent of your candle! Our sense of smell can change the way we feel. Scented candles help lighten or calm a mood, reduce stress, create a sense of relaxation, energize us, create a romantic feel, induce thoughts of happy childhood memories, and so much more.
How Do I Know If I’m a Candle Junkie?
Proud candle junkie right here! I realized my candle addiction when I cleaned out my walk-in closet. I have an entire section dedicated to candles. While these shelves are actually for shoes, mine are full of candles. When I say full of candles, I mean six shelves with candles of every scent imaginable. My shoes are playing second fiddle in boxes along the wall in my closet.
My candle addiction is real! It lures me to the candle section of every store I enter. But who can blame me, right? Candles make me happy. I love scented candles! There really aren’t many scents that I don’t like, except a few. I won’t mention those because I don’t want to sway anyone from a scent they love. So, how do you know if you have a candle addiction? Does it really matter? If you love candles, you love candles! This is the most harmless guilty pleasure anyone can have.
So, how do you know if you are a scented candle Junkie? Put simply, you love candles, you have lots of candles, you have candles in every room of your home, and the phrase “too many candles” is not part of your vocabulary. Last but not least, if you have a difficult time walking past the candle section at every store you enter without stopping to smell each scent, you meet the requirements of a candle junkie!
How Do I Find the Perfect Scented Candle?
Finding the best scented candles can be a bit tricky. It’s going to be different for everyone depending on your sense of smell and preferences. After all, there are so many wonderful candle scents to choose from, and it’s a challenge to pick just one. To help you select the perfect candle, we have put together a few things to consider.
In What Room Will Your Candle be Placed?
It’s a good idea to consider the space you will be putting your candle. Consider the size of the room as well as the use of the room. If your room is small, you may want to steer clear of big, bold scents that may overpower your space. However, if the room is larger, such as a family room, a bold scented candle might be perfect. The scent of a candle should never overpower or compete with other scents in a room. For example, if you buy a candle for your kitchen, choose a scent that does not compete with the foods you may be cooking. The right room fragrance will set the mood you want.
What is the Purpose of Your Candle?
If you are like me, there are always candles burning in my home and office. The space I am in and what I am doing helps me choose the candle scent. For example, if you are relaxing or just unwinding for the day, a softer scent such as lavender or sandalwood is a great choice. You may want to choose a more vibrant and energizing fragrance if you are working like citrus or rosemary. If your candle’s purpose is to help cover up scents from pets, a great choice might be coffee-scented candles.
Which Fragrance do I choose?
Once you have decided what room your candle is for and your candle’s purpose, the next step is choosing the fragrance. To select your scent, you need to determine if you want a single natural fragrance or a combination of different scents. Every bouquet falls into a category or group such as exotic, floral, fresh, and woody. Most people tend to gravitate towards one or two particular types of scents. Below are a few examples of scents that fall into each of the four categories identified.
Exotic Scents
Coffee
Cuban Tomacco
Cinnamon
Incense
Vanilla
Floral Scents
Lilac
Gardenia
Lavender
Cherry Blossom
Rose Petals
Fresh Scents
Bergamot
Grapefruit
Eucalyptus
Lemongrass
Mint Leaf
Woody Scents

What are the Best Candle Scents to Choose and Mix?
Everyone has their own distinct sense of smell. While one scent may smell amazing to you, it may not smell quite so good to someone else. Choosing the best fragrance for your candle is genuinely all about personal preference. Single scent candles are perfect all on their own; however, if you want to try your hand at mixed fragrances, start with scents that are familiar to you. We find that the best way to start is to dive right in.
If you visit Embers Candle Bar, our team is ready to help you find the perfect blend. Using a blotter strip can help you test different fragrance combinations to see how you like them mixed. Blending fragrances is a lot of fun! Not only are you creating a beautifully scented candle, but you are also potentially creating your very own custom scent. Below are a few scents that we find blend well together to get you started.
Lavender and Mint Leaf
Lemongrass, Yuzu, and Agave
